The Blachly-Lane County Cooperative Electric Association sign is located at 90680 Highway 99 North, Eugene, OR

The upper portion of the sign features a double-sided biomorphic-shaped display surface on a 4-sided, spire-shaped post. A small, spherical light projects from the support post on the west side. On the east side, the sign has a smaller, double-sided display surface featuring the likeness of Willie Wirehand, a long-time spokes-character for electricity cooperatives. Willie was created in 1950 by Andrew McLay for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). For more information on the history of Willie Wirehand, please select this hyperlink

According to Blachly-Lane employee Joe McFadden, the iconic, landmark sign "was made by Martin Brothers Signs in the late 1960's. It is a unique sign...one of a kind. The faces of the large sign and the smaller Willie Wirehand figure had weathered over the years and the lighting inside the sign needed repairs. Image King Signs did the retrofit. Now the sign has new materials for the faces and an updated logo. The lighting is fixed and the sign shows up bright and clear on those dark and foggy days".
